copying audio cds
greetings
i still havnt found an answer to this; my cd/dvd-rw can mount and view data cds but when i try to insert an audio cd something similar to "input/ouput error, cant read superblock" appears. i have fedora core 3 and the device is listed in my fstab file. heeeeelp!!;)) |
Hi.
There is no filesystem on an audio CD, so you can't mount it. Dave |
You can rip the wav files from the cd with cdparanoia or cdd2wav give k3b a try too.

burning audio cd
i have tried cdda2wav with no success;
i typed: cdda -D /dev/hda -I cooked_ioctl -x --max /media/cdrecorder -B /*i specified the interface cooked_ioctl because when i tried cdda before it used some scsi interface, and this didnt work (nor is my cd/dvd-rw a scsi dev.)*/ this is an abbreviated output of what happened/ was printed to the screen: AUDIOtrack pre-emphasis copy permitted tracktype channels 1- 9 yes no audio 2 Table of contents: total tracks......(etc.)(total time..(etc.)) CDIndex discid:.....(big_long_number_was_here) CDDB discid:0x750d1c09 CD-Text:not detected CD-Extra:not detected open audio sample file: Permission denied Could not open file /media/cdrecorder.wav EnableCdda_cooked(CDIOCSETCDDA) is not available... (END) also, before i tried this i changed the permissions of both the /dev/hda and the /media/cdrecorder files/directories to 777. ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? please let me know if you cant help as my last question(similar to the, just one step back) was left for dead :) |
hi,
try using cdparanoia, ripperX or grip. |
copying cds
wow!cool, it worked fine with cdpranoia.
thanks a mill. im being greedy now but; what are the default read/write speeds, and how can change them? also, when i ran cd record, although it worked perfectly, it also included this: cdrecord:operation not permitted Warning: cannot set PR scheduler. cdrecord:operation not permitted Warning: cannot set priority using set priority. hight risk of buffer underuns. does anyone know what the PR scheduler and set priority is? |
Cool when you learn more about linux those commands will be a breeze. Try some graphical tools also k3b grip ripperX or kaudiocreator. try running k3bsetup it will change the permissions so you can use cdrecord as a user
|
kaudiocreater is another good tool for ripping cd's.

refering to "k3b". up to now when i have burned cds i have changed the permissions of /dev/hda and /media/cdrecorder myself manually through root
but everytime i switch off the pc these settings are set back to the original permissions. why is that? also, after burning a few cds cdrecord has noticed that my max burnspeed is 40x and fails as it seems the operating system cant do this. what is the max speed that fedora core three can handle? |
