how can i convert .ram .ra wma wav to mp3 or back

is there a software that dos this ??

i dont know if there is [i would GUESS there may be, but iv never found one] a tool to convert between those filetypes (ie real to windows media)

burning cds? lots. include your distro and version in your profile on the left so we can see what software to suggest. if you have KDE, look around in the multimedia or such menu, there should be one isntalled. if, by the off-chance there isnt, go to freshmeat or sourceforge websites and look for cd burning apps.

try sox for converting and cdrecord for burning - cdrecord should come with your system, sox doesn't always.

sorry for not mentioning it but you probably have to download some special codec to get sox to convert from wma. Are you on linux??

yes it's gnome i'm new to it . . . i was using KDE all the time before and i like it alot

but with ubuntu it's ok i'm learning something new

Try doing a google search. I don't know of any graphical ones because I usually just write my own programs to do what I want.

Check out K3B. It's the best of the Linux CD burners, and it can convert .ogg .mp3 or .wav to CD for you. Perhaps it can handle other types as well, but I'm not sure.

Audacity generally can import different formats, but only exports to a few: wav, ogg, & mp3 if you have the codec. Most distros don't come with the .mp3 codec by default because of patent issues. But you can easily find and install it yourself if you need it.

You might need to get MPlayer and the Win32codecs pack for .wm and .rm support. MPlayer can do just about anything; import, export, convert...but most of the useful features like that are command-line stuff.

And for goodness sake, don't be afraid of the command line! It's generally not as hard as most people think. All you have to do is learn a few command strings and then it's just as easy, if not easier, to use than a GUI program. Read the .man pages, experiment and learn, and you'll find that there's really nothing to it. It just has a bit of a learning curve attached. I've been learning how to do video converting over the last few months, which is much more complex than audio conversion, and now that I know how to use most of the major command-line programs, I don't WANT to use a GUI any more. It's just that powerful and convenient.

Finally, remember that it's not generally a good idea to convert from one compressed format to another if you can help it, since that usually results in further sound degradation. It's much better if you can use the original cd audio as a source.
