convert ms office to open office ubuntu 6.06 and 8.04


hi, anyone would give an advise, i am having a problem opening ms office in openoffice. it took to much time in opening/converting a file in openoffice and sometimes it wasnt able to open it. is there any tools or tips that would make it faster and better?

Hard to answer ... occasionally there are documents with
embedded scripts and/or a strange layout that just seem
to take forever to open. My only recommendation would be
to try and save them in an OO format once it's loaded and
see whether it works better next time around. Another option,
if the formatting isn't too important to you, would be to
use tools from the wv-series of programs to generate
different output and then try to open that from OO.

tnx, i just going to try the option you provided. is there a limit with the file size? i just wondering with the one file PPT it size is 996kb, and almost 30mins still it doesnt able to load

I don't know about size limits, chances are that there's something
embedded that OO can't handle, e.g. an COM+ object or something the
like tends to do bad things to OO.
