Convert avi to dvd using ffmeg

Hi,

I am currently using Ubuntu 6.10. I am trying to use ffmpeg to do my conversion from avi to dvd. After running the command:

ffmpeg -i Dunnel.avi -target ntsc-dvd /home/tsai/Movies/dvd.mpg

This is what I get:

INFO: UTF-8 character encoding detected by locale settings.
Assuming UTF-8 encoded filenames on source filesystem,
use -input-charset to override.
mkisofs: Unable to make a DVD-Video image

Does anyone know what I should do next? I really want to stick with the command line as I hear it is the fastest and most accurate way.

Thanks,

tsai

I would try mencoder rather than ffmpeg directly. I have information on howto do this Here.

Have you authored the dvd using dvdauthor? You must create the dvd filesystem before you burn it with growisofs.

Convert avi to dvd

Hi again,

dvd author worked fine but when I try to make the dvd using the command:

growisofs -Z /dev/dvdrw -dvd-compat dvd/

I get:

growisofs -Z /dev/dvdrw -dvd-compat dvd/
Executing 'mkisofs dvd/ | builtin_dd of=/dev/dvdrw obs=32k seek=0'
INFO: UTF-8 character encoding detected by locale settings.
Assuming UTF-8 encoded filenames on source filesystem,
use -input-charset to override.

1) Are you sure that your dvd burner is /dev/dvdrw Try using its actual device name, it is usually /dev/hdc.

2) Can you burn any other DVDs ?

By the time you get to using Growisofs, it should work if your DVD burner is working. Is it possible to borrow a DVD burner of someone?

Try burning a normal data dvd using Growisofs, and see if it works successfully.
