Control Center In Fluxbox?
 

Hi. I'm fearly new to Linux (to months in it). Just the other day I installed because I wantet a faster and sleeker WM then KDE and Gnome. One thing I miss is a good control center like kde's 'kontroll center', so you have a fair controll over the peripherals, network and so on with out running kcontrol center...

Is there one following fluxbox, or theres an other good one i can use, so i dont have to edit files for every single setting...

Fluxbox has no built in control center that I know of, though I'm sure you can download some kind of app to make up for that, however I don't know any off the top of my head. My advice, learn the console and try to avoid the gui stuff. Once I got used to it I found it was faster and easier than navigating through menus and such.

Thanks for the reply:-) I kan understand that changing setting in the gui is a lot more limited then editing the config files, but for the basic setting where i dont need to change that much i would like gui. Does anny one know of one?

You could always cheat and open up a terminal and run 'kicker' - the kde menubar- you can then choose the control center from there. It doesn't seem to affect system performance much since your wm is still speedy fluxbox. I myself am a big fan of editing the config files and poking around on the command line, but that should work. When you are done just type 'pkill kicker' and it will close it down for you.

Fluxbox is pretty good stuff, personally I also like Enlightenment.

Pretty much, most windowmanagers are pretty rad stuff, you just have to find one your enjoy.

FVWM, I have heard lots of good stuff abou too (and some of the more obscure ones like Ion)

Let me see you run ubuntu and your asking about graphical config tools. just because your in fluxbox if gnome is still installed just run the ones for gnome. you'll have to open a terminal or run dialog to do so

Im sorry... im using simply mepis now... I know i can use the kcontrol, but I was wondering if it was a kontroll center like kcontroll for fluxbox. It seems that it is no such thing for fluxbox. Thanks for the replys...

When you use a WM, you sacrafice all of the gui tools most DEs have. (most, not all, E comes with a lot of graphicalish tools). Part of the reason why a DE is a DE, is because it comes with all of the tools. If yuo want a lightweight DE, that comes with some tools like those, check out XFCE4, it's pretty good, pretty lightwight, and based off GTK.
