Contacts and calendar sync server

Hello All,

I am a relative newbie to linux but I successfully installed my first mail and webserver from scratch. I would like to extend it to a service which could sync my contacts and caledar from my mobile phone.

I wonder what would the easiest and the most straight forward solution be. I am running debian lenny, would like to sync thunderbird/lighting and windows mobile phone with it.

Regards

Hello brunoschwartz,

I don't seem to fully understand your question. What about syncronization between your windows phone and a windows-computer? does that work? which programms are necessary to get this working?

Here's how I solved this requirements for me:
I'm using the google-calendar with thunderbird (they have a plugin: "google calendar tab") and I've configured my googlemail account on my Palm. Since Thunderbird runs of every OS I have a systemindependend syncronization of my calendar.

A lot of this depends on what type of phone you are using.

If it's an Android, syncing through apps that understand Gmail tools is pretty easy. I pull my Google Calendar into my computers with Korganizer.

If it's a Windows Mobile 6 phone, you are hiking up hill. (I have no experience with the new Windows mobile and have every expectation of maintaining that track record.)

I used to have a Windows Mobile 6 phone; I tried to set up SyncCE and concluded it was not worth the trouble, since I had no compelling (that is, would cost me money) reason making the sync happen; what I had to sync, I synced with email or with the digital (as in tapping with finger) method.

Hello guys,

Thanks for your reply. I wasn't specific enough in my question. What I would like to do is not to use google but run a similar service on my server. That is my contacts will sync from my mobile to the server and then when I am on my comp the thunderbird will sync to my server as well. Thanks.

Maybe this will help. I have no way of testing it.
