connection error while setting up a wifi adhoc network on debian


root@debian:/etc/network# ifup wlan0

SIOCSIFFLAGS: Unknown error 132

SIOCSIFFLAGS: Unknown error 132

Failed to bring up wlan0.


i am getting the following error on trying to set up a wifi adhoc connection between two laptops running debian.i have made changes to the interfaces file as follows:

auto wlan0

iface wlan0 inet static

address 192.168.1.1

netmask 255.255.255.0

wireless-channel 1

wireless-essid MYNETWORK

wireless-mode ad-hoc

please help me in this regard.

Check rfkill and see if it isn't soft disabled before anything.
