I have connected to internet using ubuntu through the ethernet cable of my modem previously by
following the steps mentioned when the command
'pppoeconf' is executed.
But now i am using the USB of my modem instead of the Ethernet cable.
In windows i had to install the usb drivers ,configure the DNS and stuff related to internet connection and my net connection in windows works fine.
Problem:
When i try connecting to internet with ubuntu i am able to stay connected to the internet only for 1-2 mins (hardly) and then the connection terminates !!and when i execute ,
sudo pon dsl-provider sometimes it gets connected ,sometimes it doesn't and when connected i can stay online only for 1-2 minutes again..What is the problem??What should be done?
What version of ubuntu are you running? The reason I ask is because the latest version of ubuntu(Jaunty 9.04) has built in modules and drivers for dealing with this sort of thing, and the network-manager applet is configured to use it!
Ok, to each of you I say, please open your own threads with your questions, since this will become very confusing otherwise. Please post a link on this thread to your own threads, and I will follow them. For each of you, the details required are:
1. make and model of computer / laptop
2. version of ubuntu you are running
3. the output of
Code:
lspci
from a terminal window, if you don't know how to do this, please post that you don't know, and i will help.
To adithya24. I'm not certain that ubuntu 8.04 can solve your problem immediately, what I will say is that there is a package in ubuntu 8.10 which replaces the network-manager applet in the top corner of your screen, which allows you to configure a USB connection.
This may help you. Can you please post here the make and model of your modem / what you are plugging into your computer, and make and model of your computer, and the output of
