Are you using a wireless connection or through an ethernet cable? Are you connected to a network that uses DHCP or static addressing?

In either case you should look at `man ifconfig` for interface control options (run that command from the shell prompt).

Edit: Welcome to LQ!

If you open a shell/terminal window, could you run the following two commands as root?

ifconfig -a
iwconfig

These commands will let us know the status of your wireless card (called an 'adapter') and whether your computer recognizes it.

That's odd, because when I made an Ubuntu 9.04 CD, and put it in my laptop, it automatically configured the wirless. I tried it on my ASUS EeePC 1000HA and it worked right out of the box.

Linux Mint 7 is based on the Ubuntu 9.04 system, so it should work in Linux Mint as well.

old fashined.

may I suggested using the old dern ethernet cable to test a live cd-setting up wireless networking can become a pain in the butt and if you do it on a live cd it probably won't stay-you'll have to do it next time you load the live cd. :-(
