Connecting to my ISP

I am new to Ubuntu and do not know how to configure the program so that it will connect up to my ISP with a standard 56K V92 modem.. I am not on a Network Or Server. Just an incoming phone line. Any help would be greatly appreciated. A step by step instruction would really help. Thank You.

Moved: This thread is more suitable in Linux-Newbie and has been moved accordingly to help your thread/question get the exposure it deserves.

The easiest methods depends on the distribution you use. In nearly all, however, there's kppp program (part of KDE environment). Run it and use its wizard to configure your modem.

Well if its a winmodem your gonna have problems. Linux will support just about any hardware modem connected to your serial port and hardware isa or pci modems. If its a winmodem its gonna need a driver to work in linux. Luckily linux supports some winmodems goto www.linmodems.org you can get a tool to tell you what your modem chipset is and whether it is supported.
