Unhappy Connect PC over LAN

Hi, I want to connect two computers. But I found out I lost my firewire cable. Is there any possibility of working that aroung with LAN cable but no internet connection? I have two computers with dual boot Linux/Winxp and each computer is equipped with only one net card.

You must have a crossover cable. You could make one... but a normal cable won't work without a switch.
