confusion

Hello folks,
As this is my first post, I would like some input on what is the easiest to Linux Disto. My friend (a computer programmer) has said Mandriva and Unbutu are a few of the easiest to use, and that a computer illiterate like myself
shouldnt have any trouble installing the one I decide on. Right now I am trying to research the various versions and see what is going to be best for me. If you would like to throw your opinions my way, I will gladly be willing to listen. Thanks again for any help. carl440@sbcglobal.net

I've installed fedora core when I've setup computers for people new to linux & they haven't had many problems. Only main problem was the lack of multimedia support (mp3 etc), its easy enough though for a novice to follow the instructions on http://www.fedorafaq.org and install whats needed.

For someone new, I've been recommending PCLOS. It's based on mandriva but is easier to install and use. It's a livecd so you can check it out before you commit to an install and if you like it you can install directly from the livecd.

Pick a free distro at random and dive in. You may try several before settling down. You won't know all the questions until you have actually spent some time using Linux.

What's easy is kind ofsubjuctive, but everything suggested so far are decent distros so liveCds are good. I've used both Ubuntu and Mandriva. Ubuntu needed a bit more tweaking, but a lot of that can depend on your hardware. I found the package management to be a bit more straight forward with Ubuntu, plus the community over at ubuntuforums.org is really good.
