Confused
What does all this mean
alpha, amd64, hppa, ia64, ppc (32 bit), ppc64, sparc64, x86 I'm installing the distro on a 32 bit PC, but I'm not sure which one to pick for correct installation. |
They are the names of processor types. Use the x86 for any Pentium (2,3,4,M, celeron) and AMD 32 bit CPU.
|
These are processor architectures. A standard 32 bit intel or compatible PC is x86 (i386, i486, i586, etc depending on which x86 revision it is). If you Google on some of those other architectures, you can find out more information. There are many different kinds of CPUs besides those used in consumer PCs.

They are different types of architecture. I don't know too much about architecture, so someone else will be able to explain in detail.
If you're installing on a "normal" IBM compatible 32-bit machine, then you want x86. The 32-bit PPC version is for machines that use PowerPC architecture (Macs). Edit: DAMN IT! :p :) |
Wait, so I just want to install it on a regular computer... It's AMD Athlon XP 32-Bit system... I have no idea about all of architecture stuff... Do you need the full specs of the system?
