configuring winxp boot loader to load linux

how can i configure winxp boot loader to load red hat linux 7
please explain to me in details since im really really new to linux

i would be very surprised if the Windows bootloader will let you boot into linux

in my experience the winxp security patches ALWAYS destroy linux partitions
if you want to dual boot then use the linux bootloader (lilo seems to work best)
lilo will definitely let you choose XP as an option (usually spoting the XP install automatically)
and don't install anymore XP security patches/updates once linux is installed

One extra thing when doing that is that you should keep a copy of the Linux bootsector that you make, incase you reinstall WinXP later.

I used it for WinXP and it worked a treat, and I am also a bit of linux newbie myself, so it isn't hard. I much prefer using WinXP to using a linux bootloader, since this way you will never lose your Windows. Let me know if you have any problems getting it to work.

There is nothing wrong with using the NT Boot Loader. XP does not destroy Linux partitions--set up correctly, it ignores them.

Big picture, you need to set Red Hat up to boot from its partition, copy part of that boot sector to your Windows C:\ drive and add a line to c:\boot.ini.

i didn't say that XP destroyed linux partitions

i said that the security updates and patches do

something to do with when you click on accept, one of the things you accept is microsofts right to "disable third party software"
i have had linux wiped out 3 times by "installing necessary updates"
now i just use linux for the net thus avoiding the problem
