configuring video settings from command line

Hi everyone.
Who can help?
I installed RH 9, it didn't recognise my videocard and monitor and accepted some defaults with awfull resolution. Me, as a smart boy, tried to correct, opened monitor settings, filled in all my data from monitor and videocard spec, restarted... and my xwin gone blank. I am used to wait 15 sec (in windows) to everything OKing automatically, but...
How to correct or reset the settings from the command line? I am able to login in terminal mode.

thanks.
stan.

there are lots of howtos if you search.

you need to edit the xserver files, choose a vesa card to get you going.
