Configuring TCP/UDP ports on Ubuntu for IM

I installed aMSN on my rig because I thought the extra features would be nice, but its not connecting so I changed it to a HTTP protocol over Port 80 and that failed horribly, I remember using fedora when I was 15 and the IM working just fine on that rig so I am thinking that it is a problem in the ports but I can't find any link to change them

Check if the firewall is blocking the ports, look at the help in IM for the ports that should be opened
