configuring sound


Hi,
i have just installed redhat 8 on my IBM laptop, but no sound can be heard.
how do i go about troubleshooting this?

Try using configuring alsa with by writing "alsamixer" in a terminal. You might have to unmute some of the channels. Either that or you soundcard isn't supported by your current kernel

well.. I tried to explain..
after issuing the alsamixer command, look for "M"'s on the upper part of your channels. If they are there, unmute them (press M ) then press Esc and type alsactl store
If your card isn't supported, compile your kernel so it will support it.For help with compiling a kernel, search the forum or check out my site (or any other site google finds )
