Configuring nework printer

Hi,
How do I configure a network printer? The printer is connected to the local network but doesn't show up in my machine. I can use another windows machine to print things but I would like to do it directly from the linux box.
I do not know the IP address. Is there a way to figure that out? Can I just use lp or ftp to print once the printer is configured?
Cheers

Here is a copy of LQs guide to setting up a network printer: http://www.linuxquestions.org/linux/...ter_using_CUPS.

Since you want to connect to a network printer, you probably have to be a system administrator to make the connection (passwords and all that). Ask your sysadmin to do it for you.

If you are the administrator, the guide above should help, though you will have problems if you can't figure out the network IP address.
