Configuring dail-up on slack

Just installed slackware 9.1 on my laptop, I need to get my modem up and running.

I am trying to do most of this from the command line and I am running Fluxbox at the moment.

Created the pap and chap-secret files.

RUTE documentation says I need this command entering:

pppd connect \
"chat -S -s -v \
'' 'AT S7=45 S0=0 L1 V1 X4 &c1 E1 Q0' \
OK ATDT<tel-number> CONNECT '' \
name: <username> assword: '\q<password>' \
con: ppp" \
/dev/<modem> 57600 debug crtscts modem lock nodetach \
hide-password defaultroute \
user <username>

I am a little confused. This is a script I am assuming. I called it pppd_connect and saved it as a regular sh script.

Upon executing the script I get an error ending in:

con: ppp"\ command not found.

changed it to pppd but this didn't work either. I thought the pppd is the daemon, I need this working I would have thought?

why don't you try getting pppconfig? get it, run it, hit in your configurations and then just

Code:
pon <the-name-you-gave-to-your-connection>
and that's it and closing goes like

Code:
poff
so if you give your connection (which you create with pppconfig) a name like "conn1" then you start it via "pon conn1" without quotes, and stop via "poff".
