i am having trouble configuring my printer with cups. i am using an hp deskjet 3820, hooked up to my linux laptop via paralel cable. i am running the cups web interface. i go through the wizard,and it says the printer was succesfully installed. but when i try to print a test page, nothing happens.
what am i doing wrong?
what is the device? i am currently using lpd/lpr host printer, is this right?
what is the device uri? currently set to /lp0
what driver should i use? currently set to hp bussiness inkjet 2230 foomatics/hpijs (recomended) (en)

If it's connected to the parrallel port choose the parallel port, not the LDP/LPR Host or Printer . It should be telling you the make of printer you've got connected next to the parallel port option. If not, you may have a kernel configured with the wrong options. On the Device Drivers> Character Devices menu there's an option <*> Parallel printer support. If that was compiled as a module the module will be called lp so maybe modprobe lp will help. If the parallel port driver was compiled as a module it will be called parport so try modprobe parport. You should choose the driver for your model of printer. hpijs-1.6 gives me the option to choose hp deskjet 3820 so it should be working for you too. Good luck
