configuring an additional kernel in my ubuntu 12.04 and make it dual bootable


I downloaded a latest stable kerenel 3.6.2 and I did
$make
in the /usr/src/linux-3.6.2 but i got this error message.What sld i do ?
make: ngcc: Command not found
/bin/sh: ngcc: not found
make[1]: *** [kernel/bounds.s] Error 127
make: *** [prepare0] Error 2

Hi, first install gcc package and set it's full path (i.e. /usr/bin/gcc) in your PATH variable. Then invoke the make command again. It will possibly solve the pb.

yes i tried to install gcc but it says gcc is in its newest version already.what sld i do??

Hi

Better advise to install lastest kernel update using ppa.Look after the link to install kernel version 3.6 in ubuntu 12.04

I followed the rules it the links u gave me.But it says
linux-kernel-3.6.2:1: linux-kernel-3.6.2 2012-10-15: not found
linux-kernel-3.6.2:1 linux-kernel-3.6.2 syntax error: "(" unexpected
what can i do ?pls help

Search for ppa which hold latest kernel release version 3.6.2 for ubuntu 12.04 version ,Update and install the latest kernel version through PPA

thank u soo much u are being very helpful.But still i have two questions
1. if i install the kernel this ppa is it going to replace the kernel that is currently working or it is going to be additional one? Because i want to have two bootable kernels using lilo
2. How can i work with ppa.sorry i am a beginner for this course
