configures cant find X includes

I am trying to configure / make / install packages on my FC3 system. Whenever a configuration script reaches the stage of checking for the X server, I'm getting error messages like the one below (this was from the Hydrogen 0.9.1 config, but others are coming up with similar messages)

checking for X... configure: error: Can't find X includes. Please check your installation and add the correct paths!

O.K. - how and where can I add the correct paths, and what will they be anyway?

I am getting a related (I think) problem when trying to add packages through the Fedora Package manager, it claims that packages such as xorg-x11-libs-... cannont be found, although if I try to intall these packages, the system tells me that they are already installed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Cheers David (a nearly newbie, but still clueless...)

You most likely need the xorg-devel package(s), which contain the include files and other stuff needed to compile apps against the X libraries. They should be on your install CDs.

Thanks,

However... When I try to install the Xorg-devel packages (you were right, I forgot to install them originally), I get a message saying that it can't because I need to have Xorg-libs installed first. When I try to install Xorg-libs, I get a message saying that the package is already installed.

Hmmm...

do as root a rpm -e xorg-devel* in the directory w/ the xorg-devel rpms. then do (still as root) a rpm -Uvh xorg-devel*
