Configure sendmail to use ISP's gateway?

As per the subject really ... is it possible to configure sendmail to use my ISP's SMTP gateway?

If so, can anyone explain how?
Thank you readers.

Thank you for such a prompt reply; I read that and there is no "sendmail.mc" in the /etc/mail/ folder on my Suse Linux machine. I did however, follow the guide but mail is still not being sent to external addresses

Any further ideas please?

Kind regards

hello
sorry i did not get time to do much last night on this ... i had installed Axigen 7.4 but after a little more poking about i couldn't find a way to get that to use an external SMTP gateway either. I then tried to get sendmail installed using the guide but it turns out the server is running 11.0 which is now "end of life".

For security etc I feel it wise to upgrade the machine to 11.3 ... just making a backup now of the website etc ...
while on this topic, has anyone upgraded from 11.0 to 11.3? Do i need to go to 11.1, to 11.2 then to 11.3? Or can I just jump from 11.0 to 11.3?

Since you have backups, I would suggest to do a new install.

Kind regards

For newbies gmail is simpler if you just want to get it to work, for your personal mail.
Also icedove works with it.
gmail has smtp services.

hello all
well, i must compliment suse on such a simple upgrade!
now running 11.3, just threw in the NET Installer CD, rebooted and clicked UPGRADE. Ta dar. All running now with NO problems. Awesome. OK so will re-try the sendmail instructions provided earlier.

As for Eddy1's post: thank you but gmail isn't an option ... nor is 3rd party hosting as the website requires access to my filesystem. I need to configure sendmail to use a "trusted" SMTP gateway.
