configure repository in rhel6(rhel-source.repo)

good day to everyone and to all my masters.

//i have this cd provided by my professor containing rhel6 and i installed it in virtual box but everytime i install something it says nothing to do. i remember when we were in class we edit the repository to something 10.0.0.x and enable it to 1(enable=1) which is schools proxy. we configure then and used yum install xxxxx and everthing works great. but then when i tried it myself at home it always says nothing to do whenever i attemp to install.

//first example is

[root@rolemmacaspac gaim-0.59.8]# yum install httpd
Loaded plugins: product-id, refresh-packagekit, security, subscription-manager
Updating certificate-based repositories.
Unable to read consumer identity
Setting up Install Process
Nothing to do

//i was trying to follow the useful thread and information about installing programs. and..

[root@rolemmacaspac gaim-0.59.8]# ./configure
checking for a BSD-compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c
checking whether build environment is sane... yes
checking whether make sets $(MAKE)... yes

See `config.log' for more details.

//theres a problem occur. then i read other forum.
they said that i have to install gcc

#yum install gcc
Loaded plugins: product-id, refresh-[root@rolemmacaspac gaim-0.59.8]# yum install httpd
Loaded plugins: product-id, refresh-packagekit, security, subscription-manager
Updating certificate-based repositories.
Unable to read consumer identity
Setting up Install Process
Nothing to do

//y do everytime i use yum install for example:

#yum install bind

yum is based on rpm
you can directly use rpm if you want to

red hat is not really free
yes you can use it ,but without the paid for and required support contract . You basically do not install anything .

the cd is it .And with it under 700 meg ,there is not much on it
no source code and not many tools
that is on the rest of the other 7 cd's or the install DVD

no updates
no additional software
no nothing

if you need to install something you need to buy the required license , and register the install
for the single desktop install
https://www.redhat.com/apps/store/desktop/
and if you have to ask , then the $299 per year license is likely what you will need

or

install the FREE rebuild of RHEL 6.4
CentOS 6.4
http://centos.org/

also "gaim-0.59.8"
the gnome im client
that was discontinued in 2007
and the very old and well VERY old 0.59 is from 2004
it was never designed for a OS 9 years newer
if you must use gaim then install "pidgen"
but it is likely ALREADY installed
gaim became pidgen back in 2007

centOS is a copy of RHEL
anything that can be done with RHEL , can be done with centOS
