Configure network

I installed linux on my PC, multi boot with windows 2000.

I connact to network/internet with Lan Card, i can connact to internet from Windows, but can't connect from Linux.

In Linux, i have no GUI as my graphics card (prosalvage) not identified, so i am booting in text code.

Code:
#service network restart

Setting network parameters : [OK]
Bringing up interface Lo: [OK]

#ifconfig
lo Link encap:Local Loopback
   inter addr: 127.0.0.1 Mask: 255.0.0.0
UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MUT: 16436 Metric:1
   RX packet: 10 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
   TX packet: 10 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
   collisions:0 txquevelen: 0
   RX bytes: 700 (700.0 b) TX bytes: 700 (700.0 b)
How do i make the lan card work ?

you've got to load the right module.
you can use ( as root ) " #lspci " to see how your card is recognised.
and :" #lsmod " to look at the modules currently loaded

and what distro you've got..?

i think you need the via-rhine module for that one...

you could try : " #modprobe via-rhine "

but i don't know your distro......

is the ip's from ifconfig the same as you use in windows?
Do you have /etc/interfaces or /etc/network/interfaces? You might have to edit it.
And do you use dhcp or static routing? Try running dhcpcd and set the interfaces file to use dhcp.

OS is CentOS from http://centos.org/

It is said to be same as RHEL (compiled from source).

#modprobe via-rhine

/lib/module/2.4.9-e.40/kernel/drivers/net/via-rhine.o: init-module: No Such device

Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.

/lib/module/2.4.9-e.40/kernel/drivers/net/via-rhine.o: insmod /lib/module/2.4.9-e.40/kernel/drivers/net/via-rhine.o failed

/lib/module/2.4.9-e.40/kernel/drivers/net/via-rhine.o: insmod via-rhine failed

There no files like

/etc/interfaces or /etc/network/interfaces

in my computer.

What i should do next ?

if that's a RHat-kernel, they should have also such a module ( strange it's not there ? )
maybe check on their website for a download.
