Confessions of a Newbie

I'm quite a Linux newbie. I first tried Linux with Ubuntu Natty but I didn't like Ocelot so I shopped around for an alternative distro.
Those .iso distro discs were great for getting a taste of the differences.
Not all of them were as easy to install alongside other distros though.
I've kept a small partition (75GB) with Natty Narwhal on it but I decided to go with Mint 11 (225GB) in the end for my main distro.
Sure the preloaded media codecs were a selling point but I've found the style and the avoidance of Unity much to my taste.
It wasn't an easy choice though, Ubuntu clearly goes out of it's way to be accessible to newbies like me.
I'm only doing a bit of PCB design and some mp4 editing with it so far, I have Linux on a laptop but my desktop is still a Windows machine (ahem ... Vista32 ... OK I admit it!).

Howdy.

You may be able to test out distro's faster in a virtual machine if your system is newish and has enough ram.

Plenty of choices out there from bsd's to linux.

@Jefro Thanks for that. I'm pretty settled with Mint at the moment.
IIRC it was Fedora that didn't want to play.

@Cedrik I've got Lucas on my Windows PC . So far I'm finding gEDA that little bit better. Better device libraries. And more
