Conexant Winmodem

For awhile, I have been trying to get my winmodem to work. It's a Conexant HSF Data/Fax/TAM/Speakerphone with Vendor ID: 14F1 and Device Id: 2016. I've tried downloading a driver from http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/ ; however my kernel (2.4.8-24.8.0) isn't supported. So, I downloaded a generic driver, and installed it as what seemed succesful. But when I try to set up an internet connection, my modem isn't recognized, which leads me to believe that the generic driver doesn't work with my modem.

Eventually, I came across this page , and I figured I'd try out their way. However, I am having trouble finding the file hsfcompat_24-1.0d.tar.gz which is needed for the installation. The link they provide isn't to the file, but redirects you to the site http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/. I searched on Google but I didn't find the file (just alot of howtos stating the exact same thing). Anyone know where I can get it?

If once you install the driver package /dev/modem isnt detected, try running hsfpciconfig as root in a console and then try again.
Maybe try upgrading your kernel if it still doesnt work. Test it on another machine/install first if you can.
