Conexant AccessRunner under Mandrake 9.2

Now I know this has been answered before but the guides I found via Google sadly went right over my head.

If there's no relativly simple way to go about what I'm after then I'll attempt the more complex approaches (be gentle, I've been a windows user for far too long now!)

So, what's the best way for me to go about getting my broadband connection running under Mandrake 9.2? I have an AccessRunner ADSL modem with a Conexant chipset. I'm also going to be sharing the net connection over a LAN with a pc running Windows XP Pro.

Thanks in advance!

Internal ADSL modem? Either flush it down to the toilet or give it to your three year old godson for a teether.

You are wasting your time here (I wasted 60 hours fighting with one.) No matter how much or less you value your time, it is so much cheaper to buy a real (external) adsl modem.

Besides, then something is not crashing your system spontaeously and eating half of your cpu time (the few bucks saved in the internal version is because it is actually using your cpu to do everything. It does't even run on P100Mhz)

Those drivers are one megabyte (since I last checked) of size; that is more than your linux kernel, fgs.

PS. I do got it working, in one special kernel version, in one system, somewhat unstabely, though.

Would the Alctatel SPeedtouch USB modem do the job? I'm seeing a few of them on ebay for not too many pennies.

Well, I have no personal experiences with that one, but there seems to be
a dedicated home pages for the SpeedTouch USB, so it looks quite promising.

A disclaimer:
Who knows, some things may have changed in the driver area since last september when I were last time fighting with that AccessRunner. So in case you allready have the card, you might want to check the current status if they are gotten any better (In my time, there where few binary-only drivers, others compied against old linux kernel, other against a kernel with custom redhat patches).

Thanks, I'll have a look around and see what I can find.

::edit::

There's a lot of noise about the conexant pci modem, and a lot of confusion and failure stories. Blarg.

I'm going to need pppoatm installed too. I'm pretty sure I got the file I need - but I've got a niggling suspision that the files I have are for Red Hat instead of Mandrake. I'm guessing that's gona significant.

Ah well. I toil on diggin up info under XP, saving info then booting into Linux. On I shall toil.
