Computer will not boot after install

Hello All
I installed Ubuntu 11.10 on my computer and when I restarted
my computer I get a message
"error: no such device: 868152e-2015-469b-b469-ebc2c953dfb4.
grub rescue>"
When I installed Ubuntu it would only let me install it to an
external drive I have. Also I installed to Windows side by side.

I then completed a factory restore but got the same message.

Could someone help.

Thanks

Try doing this for temporary solution:
  • Find out what your linux root file system partition (/dev/sda1 or something)
  • Select the boot option which boot your linux in grub, and press "e"
  • Find a line with "linux" command at its beginning, and find "root=...." on the line
  • Try replacing the UUID=... with your root partition (i.e. /dev/sda1)
  • Press Ctrl+X
Tell me if it is working, and then I might come out with better solution

Boot your Ubuntu CD as a liveCD (don't install), go here, do as it says. We will be able to see what the state of the boot-loader is from that RESULTS.txt

First try to install the bootloader again.
