Computer now has two sound cards...

OK, I installed a sound card on my box and it worked perfectly as I was able to hear the sounds from the test... Problem is, there are still remnants of the old sound card floating around and when I tried to play a CD it just didn't produce a sound (I assume it was due to the old driver for the old card being there.)

The reason I didn't eliminate the old sound card was because it was bundled with a bunch of things (Compaq Presario... That's right... Never seen anything so badly modularized...) How can I reconfigure everything so that the old piece of %$^&^ sound card that is not working is not even acknowledged by Linux and my new nice sound card is the only one big boss of sounds?

I am impressed with Fedora Core 1... I wonder if Fedora Core 4 is better... Distro reviews show better marks for Fedora Core 1... Why is that? I have the DVD for Fedora 4 :p

You should be able to disable it in the bios if it is an onboard card.

Please tell me how... Just opening the case of my computer was a huge production! Should I open my box again?

Post your computer make and model and don't open it until further notice ...

It is a Compaq Presario 5000

I have a sysadmin friend... Should I contact him?

That would be a good idea. If you need to do it yourself(not that hard)
When the first screen appears, press F1 to enter the BIOS Setup. On certain Compaq Presario PCs (prior to 2002) press the F10 key at the logo screen to enter setup.
