The RedHat exams eg RHCE are more widely known and respected, but they are RH specific (of course most of it applies to Linux generally).
You should also take a peek in the LQ Certification forum. there is one thread where we have started compiling certification resources we have found online..
You mention RedHat and Solaris certification but don't bother to use Google to search for LPIC
I've been dong system administration for over 10 years and my first stop for almost any problem or question is usually Google.
Punch LPIC into Google and the very first hit is the LPI Site explaining the LPIC certification
