Compressed image stops install, can't read superblock, kernel panic
I am trying to install linux on a Dell Dimension 4400. I have tried several different distributions Fedora Core 1, Core 2, Core 3, Core 5, Ubuntu, SUSE 9.0, Debian and Linspire. Each time I get an error and all are similar but the numbers are different. The following is the one I got from a Fedora distribution:
md:...autorun DONE
RAMDISK: Compressed image found at block 0
crc error
EXT2-fs:unable to read superblock
isofs_fill_super: bread failed, dev=md1 iso_blknum=16, block=32
kernelpanic-not syncing: VFS:unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(9,1)
[<c011978e>] panick+0x3e/0x16c
Can anyone tell me what is going on here. It seems to me that linux should be able to run on the Dell. Incidentally, this failure happened after I re-formatted the drive. This is a new installation.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks
