Smile compiling via Makefile g77 command not found ubuntu


Hello,
I am newbie to ubuntu. I have a source code of a project made on fortran. When I am running the make command following is the problem.
g77 -O -C -ffixed-line-length-none -c -o rout.o rout.f
make: g77: Command not found
make: *** [rout.o] Error 127

Please try to help. Thank you very much

G77 is no longer supported. You can use gfortran to compile your program.

Here is a thread from the Ubuntu forums which was posted 2 months ago. It may help you to get your program compiled.

g77 is in the ancient gcc33 / gcc34 compiler

normally called something like " gcc33-compat "

77 IS NOT!!!!! in the current gcc4.8 or 4.9
that version is FORTRAN is f90 and up

PS and if you are wondering that "77" stands for the YEAR 1977 ( great year for movies http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0075648/ )

that years FORTRAN standard
