Compiling Programs

I have downloaded a few programs well the source to be exact.I cd to the directory and run the configure command and well everything flies on by.I see all the yes's and no's.Now seems everytime after the configure command is run I run make and I get error messages like no make file and basically anything about make files.Am I doing something wrong I mean I even get this with popular programs and can't believe all my downloads are bad. Thank You

Are you sure configure finished without errors? It might be helpful if you would post the last few lines of the configure output.

If there's no Makefile, then ./configure isn't completing. Go back through the output from configure, especially the last 10 lines or so. See if there's an error logged, and what the error message was.
