Question Compiling problems

I have just installed Fedora Core 5 and after downloading some programs i read the instructions on how to compile them and after following the instructions i got to a point where it wouldnt run the 'make' command after running 'configure'. All it says is- make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop. After reading some other posts on compiling problems it seems i need to also install GCC or the development package from the distro cd because it says during 'configure' - checking for GCC... no. Could somebody please help as im a complete newbie.

What are your trying to build and is available in the FC repositories as an rpm? You may not need to build and install by hand unless you really want to. In that case, the FC5 CD/DVD will have development tools on it that you can install. I think, but I don't use Fedora so don't quote me, that there is a menu item called "Install Software" or something similar.

Yes it does have an install software tool but whenever I go into it it tries to search for intalled software then tells me it failed. By the way is there a site I can go to to download RPMs?

This site will help you get some extra repositories sets up that you can use with yum. There are plenty of sites that have rpms for download. I would suggest that you Google for them rather than have me do it for you.
