compiling openssl 1.0.0.0d on RHEL 5 systems

Hi all,

Has anyone succeeded to compile openssl 1.0.0.0d on RHEL?
Redhat has not released openssl 1.0.0.0d rpm for RHEL and no ETA.

Any step by step instructions on how to compile it would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Bavon

Like you would normally compile something? Download, unpack, cd, ./configure, make, make install?

The INSTALL file explains how to install this library.

System libraries are not updated in RHEL by changing the major version number.
Features from later versions are backported to update e.g. openssl-0.9.8.
The current update is openssl-0.9.8e-20.el5.

And you can not just install '1.0.0.0d'. Other system files depend on 0.9.8.
( Though it should be possible to have both versions installed.)

Compiling openssl-1.0.0.0d from 'openssl-1.0.0d-1.fc13.src.rpm' :
rpmbuild -bb openssl.spec
That's the preferred way to get all the 40 patches etc. included.
( Fedora 13 - 15 and RHEL 6 uses 1.0.0d )

P.S. : There is no usual 'configure' file in openssl.

..

Knudlf,

So there is no way to build it on RHEL 5 by starting from its tarball? eg openssl-1.0.0.0d.tar.gz?
and not from its source rpm( if any available for RHEL 5)

Bavon.

The source code file openssl-1.0.0d-1.XXX.src.rpm is a "tarball" with :

openssl-1.0.0d-usa.tar.bz2, 33 patches, 7 other required build files.

Actually I did build the new version on a couple of systems.
I can supply a download link to openssl-1.0.0d-?.el5.<arch>.rpm,
if you specify your "<arch>" : i386 ? x86_64 ?

The output from : `uname -r` will show.

..

Knudfl,

Thank you for your help.
Actually, I was looking for some instructions on how to compile it on RHEL 5 using the tarball( openssl-1.0.0.0d.tar.gz) from openssl.org

Bavon.
