compiled kernel 2.6.10 with slackware 10.0, kernel panic

I just compiled my new kernel, lilo allows me to boot on my older one, but, i am very interested in making this one work

i boot my machine on 2.6.10

all goes well until a line reads like this:

Kernel panic - not syncing VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown block (3,1)

what do i do??? it just freezes...

should i configure the kernel again?

Yes, try some changes to the config. Best to have the root filesystem compiled into the kernel and NOT compiled as a module. That can be a problem sometimes.
