compile / install tutorial somewhere?

Hi,

Is there a tutorial somewhere that would help me out of the newbie fog as regards installing the likes of libusb (libusb.sourceforge.net) and then compiling and installing the K8055 package at libk8055.sourceforge.net ?

I get errors such as 'gcc command not found' when I attempt the steps listed at the k8055 site. I have a profound sense that I don't know what I am doing when I look at the libsub files and need some sage guidance from someone.

I am attempting to install on SuSE 10.3 btw but would eventually like to be able to install same, if possible, on a DSL (http://damnsmalllinux.org/) box I have running. The DSL box seems to be lacking memory to run the compiler gcc ETAL but I am hoping to be able to compile on the SuSE box and then move the executables over to the DSL box. Am I being naive here? If so, blame Bill Gates.

All assistance greatly appreciated.

Thanks and best regards,

Brian H.

You don't have the gcc compiler package installed.

You should have the libusb and libusb-devel packages available to install using your package manager. That's what it's there for.
