Compilation question.
 

First and foremost, I'm a real newbie in Linux and here I am in this forum to ask this question, please dont flame me.

I've downloaded a dozens of IDS for my Linux Redhat 7.3 and always encounter problem installing them, I didn't download the program in *.rpm or any form that make my life easier because I'm looking forward to modify some of the source.But unfortunately, everytime I do a makefile or follow the instructions provided I will get error.Error message that I don't understand.

Files missing,integrity error,missing link and many more.

But my friend who is using Linux Redhat 7.3 is just doing fine and I wonder what is behind his success.

Maybe your friend has all the necessary dependencies for the programs installed. Always read the README file (that's why it's called that :) ) to see what other programs you need before you can install.

It would help more to list a program your trying to install and the error message your getting.
