ok... so you have a message that says 'gtk-config not in path'. Now, maybe that menas that the program 'gtk-config' is surprisingly enough, not in your path. use 'locate gtk-config' or 'whereis gtk-config' etc... to m,ake sure you've got it, and that the directory your in is in the PATH parameter. it might not find it from being logged in as an unpriveleged user, as opposed to root... but gtk-config should be in /usr/bin... so that shouldn't matter.
