Compatibility with Windows LAN

The ship's where I work has LAN with Windows OS, my question is if I configure or adopt Linux as operating sys on my Laptop, will it be possible for me to connect my laptop to LAN available on ship and will I be able to access other workstations on LAN?

Without knowing the exact spec on the LAN, the simple answer is yes, you should have no major issues. The primary software you will need in order to interact and use files/printers on Windows systems is SAMBA.

MMAli,

You might like to remove the personal information from your LQ profile at the left (your COMPLETE address).

LQ are quite a nice bunch of people, but this is still posted to the Big Bad Internet!

Please don't be too trusting.

And... yes, you can connect to a windows network with linux's samba suite of tools :)

Welcome to LQ!
