Communicating Linux to Windows through Serial Port?

I am in verse to check whether 2 VMs (one configured as a client and configured as a server) can exchange data between them via serial port connection over network.I started setting up server as Windows and Linux as a client.First I went through Guest VM> Edit settings > Serial Port > Connection(use network> Port PRI: Client > telnet://<IP>:3000).
Now I followed the same for Windows VM too with Guest VM> Edit settings > Serial Port > Connection(use network> Server > Port PRI: telnet://<IP>:3000) <IP> being the same local ESX Storage.
Now the server-client architecture is Ready.
Now I want to test serial communication.
In Linux I have minicom and in Windows hyperterminal.
How can I test the same?
How can I exchange data between two VMs( Windows and Linux)?
