Common protocol
I'm a little bit lost in Linuxland. Please help.
1. What is the common installation directory for programs? I have seen tutorial where everything goes in /usr/src, but I know there are other tutorials that say put everything in /usr/local. When do I know when to use which folder for my installation? 2. Can I remover the .tar file after I have finished uncompressing it? I assume it's the equivalent of a zip file in Windows. What's the command to remove a file? 3. What version of Java does Slackware 10 ship with? Do I need to install Java again before going ahead and installing Tomcat? That's it for now. I'm sure there's more to come later. Thanks. Daniel. |
mm I know some of the answers (I think)
1) It depends on your distro, so I guess I don't know
2) You can remove tar files when you are done with them. 3) I have no idea Hope someone else can add to this |
