Commented out the root account in /etc/passwd

Like a moron I commented out the root account in /etc/passwd and now of course I can't get back in to uncomment it. The problem is that I did this on a virtual machine (vmware) and now I'm lost as to how to mount the file system using knoppix live cd? It's not a physical drive being used for the vmware, but a virtual one.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Single User mode? you should be able to edit the file using single user mode.
