Yes.. that forces bash to re-read the file.

But it doesn't force it to delete anything that no longer exists in the file. It can also mess up search paths... since these are usually just appended to, and now you have duplicate entries.

Also, you have to do that for every terminal session. In my case that's usually a few, although at work I have been known to do that because I didn't to start over at that moment.
