Command not implemented

Hi there,

My environment is: Windows 7==>Oracle Virtual Box==>Ubuntu 12.04

I have trouble starting my Brother MFC-7360N printer. So I tried this command:

$ lpc help

I got this response:

exit help quit status ?

If I try something different according to this, like

$ lpc restart

I get this:

restart is not implemented by the CUPS version of lpc.

How can I make sure it is implemented?

thanks, - Alex

It's not. Same here, cups-1.5.4 on a Slackware 14.0

Let me rephrase it: How can I install it?

Is it an iso file from this site?

Well, the message is clear enough, I think.

If you want to use this option, you should install another print spooler than CUPS, because CUPS doesn't include it.

For instance you could use LPRng instead of CUPS. It is available for Ubuntu 12.04 as you can see here.

Or you could simply use CUPS' web interface to start your printer (much easier, in my opinion). Just fire up any browser and go to address:
localhost:631.

PS lprng is not included in recent versions of Slackware and you should not install packages intended for another distribution anyway. Furthermore you wouldn't be able to in case of Slackware that uses a different package format.
