command Line SSH download-upload

I use SSH to log into a linux server from my windows pc.

When I am working in the SS client command line, I sometimes need to download a file to the windows platform or upload a file from the windows platform. I already know how to do this with the Secure file transfer client. But is there a command to enter from the command line to download a file to a location/directory (desktop, my documents, etc) on windows or a command to upload a file to the linux directory without having to use the transfer client?

Once connected ssh doesn't provide extra commands as such, you do need to use either scp or sftp to copy files using the ssh server subsystems
