Codecs Not Down Loading

Using two different machines, two different Linux programs, Ubuntu and Mandriva.

Both platforms will not load any of the codecs for mpegs or dvd or music files.

Only one week ago and times before that I could click on a unrecognisable mpeg the both systems would auto search for codecs to play them without a problem.

Now Mpeg 1, Mpeg 2, MP3, MPEG 4 all will not play, also You tube.

In the past I have loaded Ubuntu 9.10 from live disk and able to download codecs to play mpegs, now the auto search saids there is no codecs.

On the test side of the live CD, to test your system with the songs and mini movies works fine so it is not Linux or Mandriva failing or the computer hardware or software.

The problems are only with mpeg 1 to 4 not working.

Thanks

With Ubuntu, open the terminal and type:

Code:

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras
This will install all codecs and plugins needed to play proprietary media.

Not sure about Mandriva.
