Closing Xwindow for good

How do i close Xwindow for good???
I tried killall x and ctrl+alt+bkspc but it still pops back. you kill it and it restarts. How do i close it so i can install nvidia's drivers...

I use Pingo, that is, a localised distro of redhat with KDE and GNOME; I use KDE. I also ticked the graphical login box in the installation program and I think that's the case. How can I change the login to be text, so the Xwindow will not start whenever I close it?

Thanks for the help in andvance!

edit /etc/inittab to read id:3:initdefault

then if you want X, just type startx.

You can just type

init 3

and you will exit XServer

-JAX

if you kill xwindows 5 times in a row it should drop you back to console anyway, but just edit your inittab as posted above.

Thanks, that really helped! We really should be getting this into the "success" section...
