Disconnect the old one and put the clone into the system where the old one was. The clone is in a different place, so it is not hd0 or sd1 or whatever, but bios says to go to the first HD in the boot priority, and if grub in the HD there says to boot from the other HD, that's what it does.
So to test your cloned drive, remove the original, put the clone into the place of the original, and see what happens.
In the end, you will need to edit grub in the second HD in order to boot from that and not the first HD, but in that case, why have a clone in the computer at the same time as the first disk?
